North Siargao Surfers Shine as Second Open North Competition Concludes in Tangbo
Tangbo, Siargao, Philippines, Dec. 21, 2025 — The three-day Second Open North Surfing Competition for longboard and shortboard concluded on Saturday at the Tangbo surf spot in northern Siargao, drawing more than 30 competitors across six categories.
The competition featured two open categories for surfers from across North Siargao and three categories exclusively for local Tangbo surfers, highlighting both regional talent and grassroots participation.
Andre Osares, Fregie Camigue and Luca Aitken emerged as champions in the Open shortboard, longboard and gromet shortboard divisions, respectively. In the local Tangbo categories, Andre Yow Platil claimed the shortboard title, Prince Jig Anong secured the longboard championship, and Robinson Arlan won the gromet division.
Organizers said the event aimed to strengthen community-based surfing while promoting Tangbo as an emerging surf destination in the northern part of the island.
Sta. Monica Surfers Association President Meco said the second edition of the competition demonstrated the continued development of skills and sportsmanship among surfers from the north, alongside the steady rise in surf tourism in the area.
The winners are scheduled to receive their awards during the Araw ng Tangbo celebrations on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at the Tangbo Barangay Gym.
