La Union Team Conquers First Sta. Monica Longboard Open

TANGBO, SIARGAO — Day 3. The first Sta. Monica Longboard Open concluded Sunday at Tangbo Surf Spot with the La Union Team sweeping top honors, claiming the championship trophies in both the Men’s and Women’s divisions.

Ashley Lopez was crowned the inaugural Women’s Longboard Open Champion, while June Esquivel took home the Men’s Longboard Open Championship, marking a strong showing for the northern surf team.

Both champions expressed gratitude to the organizers, fellow surfers, the Local Government of Sta. Monica led by Mayor Ricardo Lasco, and the Province of Surigao del Norte under Governor Lyndon Barbers, for their support in hosting the historic event.

Surfers praised Tangbo’s “unspoilt vibe,” its serene coastline, and uncrowded surf breaks—reminding many of General Luna and La Union in the early 2000s. “We’ll definitely be back next year,” several participants said, eager to return to what they described as “Siargao’s new northern surf gem.”
